Verse:  Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

Psalm 61:1-3

David's Refuge

David, Israel’s greatest king, a man who wholeheartedly loved God, is perhaps more beloved and relatable than any other Old Testament person. "David’s Refuge" is set during the reign of Israel’s first king, Saul, who because of his disobedience to the Lord was told by the prophet Samuel that the kingdom would be given to another, “who is better than you.”

While serving in Saul’s army, David enjoyed many victories in battle and his popularity grew. King Saul became insanely jealous of David’s success, and was determined to kill him. But David refused to fight with Saul, and he fled into the wilderness. In this scene we see David who, although he was being hunted by the mad king, worshiped the Lord, acknowledging that God was his Rock, his Shelter and Strong Tower from the enemy.

There is a hidden image of God’s hand in the clouds behind David’s hand.
